why do I need an SSL?
In the past, Internet browsers such as IE and Netscape developed for export from the US were not automatically enabled to use 128-bit encryption. These browsers used 40-bit or 56-bit encryption, making them far more vulnerable to interception of information in transit.

what is 128-bit encryption?
